Simon Cowell has faced a series of health challenges after suffering two separate bicycle accidents within two years. During a recent appearance on The Today Show, alongside fellow America’s Got Talent judges Howie Mandel, Terry Crews, and Heidi Klum, Simon opened up about these incidents. The first occurred in 2020 when he fell from his e-bike in Malibu, and the second took place in early 2022 while cycling in London.
When asked about how these accidents had altered his outlook, the 63-year-old admitted that he hadn’t been in great physical condition before the incidents. “They were far from terrific, rather quite terrible,” he shared, adding that it wasn’t until the recovery process that he realized just how unfit he had been. He called this realization “a true god’s moment” and expressed his belief that everything happens for a reason. Despite the setbacks, Simon remains passionate about cycling, declaring, “I’m not giving up on my bike,” much to the delight of his co-stars.
The second accident left Simon with a concussion and a broken arm, though it was less severe than the first, which resulted in a serious back injury. He had to wear a wrist brace for several months and now has metal rods and screws in his back due to surgery.
Simon has since made lifestyle changes, motivated by his nine-year-old son Eric and fiancée Lauren Silverman. In an interview, he revealed that after his e-bike accident, he considered therapy for the first time in his life, as he struggled with not being able to communicate his emotions to his son. Simon proudly shared how Eric, inspired by his father’s resilience, nicknamed him “Iron Man” after the surgeries.
Despite the hardships, Simon finds humor in his recovery, and his strength and determination continue to push him forward. He remains passionate about cycling and embraces life with newfound insight and enthusiasm.
