Carol Burnett Can’t Stand Her Sister-In-Law in This Hilarious Sketch

Family is often the foundation of support, the people who lift us during tough times and celebrate with us during life’s triumphs. They’re the ones we rely on, the ones who cheer us on. Yet, as much as family can be wonderful, tensions sometimes arise within that close circle. Differences in personalities can lead to conflicts, arguments, and the inevitable awkward moments when loved ones don’t see eye-to-eye.

In a hilarious sketch on YouTube, Carol Burnett masterfully brings this dynamic to life. Carol’s character is visited by her sister-in-law, who arrives after her husband (played by Harvey Korman) has injured his foot. It doesn’t take long for sparks to fly between the two women, as they clash over how to care for him. Their relationship has clearly been tense for a while—since the wedding, in fact—where the sister-in-law seemed unreasonably attached to her younger brother and was noticeably downcast.

The tension is comically palpable, with Carol and her sister-in-law exchanging passive-aggressive remarks. At one point, the sister-in-law casually tosses a “gift” to Carol—a questionable souvenir she took off the plane. She even throws shade at Carol’s little sister, hinting in a snide manner that she’ll never find a husband.

While family can be a true blessing, this sketch brilliantly captures the humor in those all-too-relatable moments of family friction, reminding us that with family, awkwardness and laughter often go hand-in-hand.
