Red Flag Alert Issued for One U.S. State: Official Details

Residents in one U.S. state are being advised to follow wildfire safety protocols, avoiding any activities that could create sparks.

On October 28, 2024, a Red Flag Warning was issued for most of Oklahoma, specifically covering much of its western, northern, and north-central areas. According to the National Weather Service in Norman, near-critical fire conditions are expected on October 29 and 30, 2024, due to strong southern winds, dry vegetation, and low humidity. The warning will remain in effect until 6:00 p.m.

As the fire danger intensifies, residents are encouraged to follow fire safety practices, such as disposing of cigarettes properly, keeping vehicles off dry grass, and refraining from using spark-producing equipment. Adherence to burn bans and potential evacuation orders is essential, especially in western and northern Oklahoma.

Temperatures on October 28, 2024, are predicted to reach the upper 80s, with southern winds between 31-37 mph and gusts up to 55 mph. The risk may worsen by October 30, 2024, as a cold front brings temperatures nearing 90 degrees, with winds shifting from south to west at speeds of 22-29 mph, gusting up to 44 mph.

Additionally, the Rush Fire, which began near Rush Lake on October 24, 2024, has spread through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, burning over 12,000 acres. Governor Kevin Stitt has committed all available resources to assist affected residents and emphasized the importance of remaining alert and following local updates.
