Tired of encountering creepy crawlies in your home? While a few bugs here and there are common, there are definitely some we’d rather not have around. If you live in a rural area, you’re likely familiar with flies, ants, and spiders moving indoors during the summer months and beyond.
For some, these annual bug invasions are no big deal. A spider in the corner or a fly buzzing around the kitchen might be easy to ignore. However, there’s one insect that seems to get under everyone’s skin—earwigs.
You might have seen an earwig before without realizing it. They’re far from adorable, but despite their intimidating appearance, earwigs are harmless. Still, most people don’t want them crawling around the house. If you’re among them, here’s a simple trick to help keep them away.
Alicia Alexander, a Facebook user, shared her tried-and-true method for handling earwigs. She recommends filling a shallow bowl with half a cup of olive oil and placing it outside in your yard or on your deck. The earwigs are drawn to the oil and get trapped in the bowl.
According to Alicia, this trick worked wonders. In less than 24 hours, she captured a significant number of earwigs, and by 36 hours, the bowl was filled with them.
While it’s normal to find a few earwigs seeking shelter indoors, an unusually high number might signal an issue with rotting wood, as they’re attracted to decaying wood. So, it’s a good idea to check any wooden structures you have.
Now you know a simple, effective hack for dealing with earwigs! Give it a try, and let us know in the comments if it works for you.
