Coach Michael Bublé couldn’t let promising talent like 13-year-old Jaukeem Fortson slip by during Monday night’s Knockouts on Season 26 of The Voice. Fortson, one of the youngest contestants in the show’s history, delivered a powerful cover of For King & Country’s “God Only Knows” as he competed against Team Reba members Cassidy Lee (who had been previously stolen by Bublé) and Adam Bohanan.
Explaining his song choice, Fortson, a native of Elberton, Georgia, shared, “This song is about how God can meet you in hard times. This year, as I started ninth grade, schoolwork got overwhelming, but after hearing this song, I could focus and feel calmer.”
During rehearsals, Coach Reba McEntire and Mega Mentor Jennifer Hudson were moved by the young singer’s depth and sincerity. “At 13, Jaukeem sings from experience,” Hudson observed. “If he can make the audience feel the way he made us feel, he’s on the right path.”
Coach Reba echoed the admiration: “He has this beautiful smile, then steps up to the mic and stuns us all. Who doesn’t love this kid?” she said, calling his performance “miraculous.”
Bublé, taken aback by Fortson’s talent, decided to use his Steal. “I stole Jaukeem because, as a kid, people saw my potential and gave me a chance. I love that I can do that for him,” he said.
Snoop Dogg also praised Fortson, remarking, “We need more Black kids like this. Props to his family for raising him right—this is what a young Black kid can look like.”
Ultimately, Adam Bohanan advanced to the Playoffs with a rendition of “Colors” by Black Pumas, while Cassidy Lee, who performed Bonnie Raitt’s “Love Me Like a Man,” was eliminated.
