This heartwarming tale features Harley, a beautiful 6-year-old Goldendoodle, who is being celebrated as a hero for saving a drowning newborn deer. Harley’s selfless actions left his owner, Ralph Dorn, in awe when he witnessed his dog leap into a lake near their Virginia home to rescue the struggling fawn.
Ralph described the incredible moment in a viral Facebook post: “He was in the middle of the lake herding a young fawn back to the shoreline. I don’t know how the fawn got there, but Harley didn’t hesitate—he just acted.”
After safely bringing the fawn to dry land, Harley stayed by her side, gently comforting her. Eventually, the fawn reunited with her mother. But the story didn’t end there.
The very next morning, Harley became restless, running from window to window. When Ralph opened the front door, they heard the fawn’s distinctive bleating. Harley bolted into the woods, found the young deer, and shared another tender moment with her. The fawn stopped crying, wagged her tail, and sniffed Harley, who then calmly returned to the house with Ralph.
Harley’s kindhearted nature wasn’t new to his family. As a registered therapy dog, Harley regularly brought joy to nursing home residents. His heroic act of saving the fawn, however, has warmed hearts worldwide.
“We’re so happy that Harley’s story has touched so many people,” said Ralph’s wife, Pat. “We never expected this kind of response, but we’re thrilled it’s brought joy to so many.”
Harley’s compassion continues to inspire millions, proving that love and kindness transcend species.
